Greater Manchester School Games

On Tuesday 19th March our Basketball and Lacrosse teams represented Manchester and the Greater Manchester School Games.
We were the only school to send two teams. All the  Local Authorities in Greater Manchester send their best teams, Manchester, Bolton, Trafford, Tameside, Stockport, Bury, Bolton, Oldham, Rochdale, Wigan- that’s lots of amazing teams.

There was a fantastic opening ceremony at the Ethiad Stadium. After that our Basketball team went to the Amaechi Centre in Whalley Range, and the Lacrosse team went to the Armitage Centre in Withington.

The Lacrosse team had two players who were poorly, so Molly and Aisha took their place. They had not played Lacrosse before but they and the rest of the team played really well and had a great day. They won two out of their four matches and were great ambassadors for our school. Mr Bell, who went with them, was really tired by the end of the day. He never stopped cheering them on from the sidelines!

The Basketball team also had a great day, coming 5th. We felt a little bit disappointed as we only lost one match and that was to the overall first team from Stockport, who were the well deserved Champions, but we all understood that it was the luck of the draw. However our children played as a team, never giving up. Lots of teachers from other schools made a point of commenting to Miss Jagger about the fantastic attitude of our children. We think they are amazing but it is great to hear it from other people!
