We have been learning all about rivers and mountains in our current topic. We spent some time studying the structures of bridges, in particular when they use beams for support, we used this information to create our own bridges.
There were a number of steps:
1. look at different cross sections of beams and test the strength of different shapes as support (we discovered triangles were the strongest)
2. Use this information to design our bridge
3. Accurately cut the sections needed for our bridge, using a scale design
4. Construct our bridges using glue guns
The final stage will be to test their strength! Can't wait to find out how they go.
