After researching about different flags we designed our own flags for a carnival. We practised a running stitch, cut a template out of felt and joined together two pieces of material using the running stitch. We are very proud of our sewing skills!
We looked at photos of carnival costumes to get some ideas for patterns and colours. We used our cutting skills to cut shapes and stuck them in patterns to create fabulous carnival masks!

Science week this year has the theme of 'Growth'. We measured ourselves with string to see how tall we are. We then used other items and compared our height. We found that we all were 5 or 6 shoes heigh and that our height is the same as the length when we stretch our arms out.

In geography we have been learning about what a city is and identifying human features within the city. We used maps of England to help us locate different cities.
We have been learning about our senses and the body parts relating to each sense. We carried out some experiments using our senses. We had to guess what we could feel, what we could smell, what we could taste and what we could hear.
For Mental Health Awareness Week we discussed growing emotionally and things we can do to help our emotions grow. We discussed ways we can understand our emotions and had a go at some mindfulness relaxation. We also did some mindfulness colouring.
Our new topic is 'Bright Lights Big City' where we will be learning all about London and the queen. To start the topic we had a royal tea party. The children enjoyed lots of delicious food and played croquet with Mrs Jagger-Smith.
For computing this half term we have been looking at how to stay safe online, this fitted in perfectly with Internet Safety Day! We looked at how to stay safe when playing games online and how important it is to ask a trusted adult if we are unsure of something.
This half term we have been reading Beegu in year 1. Before writing the story we used the story maps we made to verbally retell and perform to the class.
