In Year 4, we have a jam-packed year filled with fantastic topics, fun trips and visitors, swimming lessons and lots of learning. Our Year 4 blog is kept up to date with all of the interesting and fun activities that take place over the year. Take a look and see!

Throughout the year, our topics are: I am Warrior (a historical journey to the Roman Empire), Blue Abyss (exploring the deep oceans), Road Trip (a geographical journey through America), Pharaohs (a fantastic insight into life in Ancient Egypt) and Misty Mountain Winding River (exploring rivers, mountains and everything in between).

Alongside this, children will spend time studying different science topics throughout the year. We always try to link our science topics closely to our English books or our Topic lessons. We study Electricity, The digestive System, Sound, States of Matters and Living things.

Year 4 Termly Curriculum Overviews

We read a wide range of non-fiction and fiction books over the year, many of which are linked to our topic, so that the children can immerse themselves in their topic and have a broad learning experience.

In Year 4, not only do the children enjoy a weekly PE lesson, they also have weekly swimming lessons. PE takes place first thing on a Monday morning and is led by our fantastic PE team and swimming is on Friday afternoon.

In order to support your child’s learning and progression further, please encourage them to read daily, both independently and out loud as this will improve fluency. Spellings will be sent home weekly, to be learnt each week for a class test and times tables should be practised daily. The children can access Times tables Rockstars online, and enjoy beating their own targets and competing with their peers to move up the leader board.

Here are some great home learning ideas linked to the topics covered in Year 4
