Information For Parents & Carers

Walking Home

Children in Years 5 and 6 may walk home from school with signed permission from their parents or carers. If you require a copy of the letter, please see the school office or the attached document below.

Homework

Homework is given out every Friday and should be returned to school by the following Thursday. Homework is an opportunity for you to be aware of your child’s learning in Maths and English, as well as support them to be as best prepared as possible for their SATs, and their next phase at secondary school. Please speak to their teacher if you have any concerns.

SATs Assessments

The National KS2 SATs will take place from Monday 11 May to Thursday 14 May 2026

Monday 11th May: GPS – this stands for Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling. One paper will test the children on 20 spellings of increasing difficulty. The other paper is 45 minutes long and has a selection of questions which assess their knowledge and understanding of punctuation and grammar rules.

Tuesday 12th May: Reading Comprehension – this paper is 1 hour long. During this time, the children are expected to read three short texts and answer a variety of questions about what they have read. They may be asked to define, retrieve, summarise, infer, predict, relate, explore and compare.

Wednesday 13th May: Maths Paper 1 – this is an arithmetic paper. Within this paper, the children are quizzed on the four calculations along with fractions, decimals and percentages.

Maths Paper 2 (Wednesday 13th) and Paper 3 (Thursday 14th)– these papers assess problem solving and reasoning skills in all maths topics.

Writing – there is no writing test, however the children will be continually assessed throughout the course of the year in their writing in all subjects in school. School will submit this data to the Local Authority.
