Our Christ Centered Curriculum
At St Francis RC Primary School, everything we do is rooted in Gospel values. We believe that, with God, everything is in our reach.
Our curriculum has been thoughtfully designed to guide children on a seamless journey from Nursery through to Year 6. It is intentionally ambitious and built around pupils’ starting points, drawing on the National Curriculum while ensuring learning is broad, balanced, and appropriately challenging. Through this curriculum, we aim to equip every child with the knowledge, skills, and behaviours needed to flourish in Key Stage 3 and beyond.
We create learning experiences that spark curiosity and inspire imagination across all subjects. Our curriculum connects meaningfully to children’s lives, weaving in relevant, real-world contexts and providing rich opportunities for first-hand experiences. In doing so, we nurture motivated, confident learners who are eager to explore the world around them.
Please see our ‘Curriculum Information’ page to find out more about how our curriculum is planned.
Pope Francis in 2014 said, “The mission of schools is to develop a sense of truth, of what is good and beautiful. And this occurs through a rich path made up of many ingredients. This is why there are so many subjects — because development is the results of different elements that act together and stimulate intelligence, knowledge, the emotions, the body, and so on.” At St Francis Primary School we aim to provide a Catholic education based on the life and teaching of Jesus Christ, in which the values of the Gospel underpin all aspects of school life. The curriculum will show how the beliefs of the Catholic Church are at the centre of everything we do.
As a school, we are committed to providing rich opportunities across our curriculum that strengthen and celebrate the cultural capital of our community. We expose children to a wide variety of subjects, creative arts and experiences that support character development and help shape well‑rounded, global citizens. Our aim is to ensure that every pupil leaves us with a strong foundation of knowledge, meaningful experiences and the personal qualities needed to open doors to future pathways in later life.
As a diverse school with many pupils from Black African heritages, we recognise the importance of honouring this richness and building upon it. We strive to prepare children for life in modern Britain by helping them appreciate both their own cultural identity and the diverse society they are growing into.
At St Francis RC Primary School, we believe that exposure to a range of cultures—both familiar and new—is fundamental to pupils’ personal development and their readiness for Key Stage 3 and beyond. From Nursery onwards, children benefit from a carefully planned range of enriching experiences, including visits to music and sporting venues, museums, galleries and places of historical interest. These opportunities help develop their cultural understanding and broaden their view of the world.
We place a strong emphasis on the essential skills of reading, writing and mathematics, which are woven throughout the wider curriculum. This enables us to deliver a bespoke learning experience that motivates, challenges and supports every child. A focus on first-hand, practical learning ensures pupils move confidently from concrete understanding to more abstract thinking, applying their skills to a range of new and exciting challenges. Through this approach, children develop excellent communication skills which enhance their literacy learning and help them grow into articulate and self-assured young people.
